Benefits of NLP

NLP has 4 fundamental elements:

  1. Setting goals
  2. Rapport
  3. Sharpening our senses
  4. Behaving flexibility

Setting goals

If you don't know where you are going you will end up somewhere else. Yet many people talk about what they don't want in life. For example, they don't want stress, over-work, trouble with people at work or at home, to be fat or to smoke. Perhaps they have a generalised idea that they want to be happier but often when they are asked what it is they really want they do not know. NLP has tools to help people get clear about their goals and to become highly motivated to achieve them.

An outcome orientated approach makes a significant difference to many aspects of our lives from simple things like shopping in the supermarket, to deciding the strategic direction of a team or choosing a partner.

"It is best to know what you are looking for before you look for it ". Winnie the Pooh

Rapport

Our ability to get on with people (to establish rapport) and to communicate clearly can make a huge difference in our lives. Each individual has his or her own unique way of being in the world and NLP helps us understand this. NLP has tools to help us quickly work out what makes people tick and to establish how best to communicate with them.

The most effective people are congruent, that is they have established good rapport with themselves. NLP also helps us do this.

"Communicate unto the other person that which you would want him to communicate to you if your positions were reversed" Aaron Goldman

Sharpening our senses

This is the ability to notice what is going on. What is working and what isn't. We are exposed to vast amounts of data but often we do not notice it. NLP helps us become more aware of all the clues we are getting when we relate to other people.

NLP also teaches us to become more aware of our own feelings and emotions and to learn that we are in control of them - they don't just happen to us. We don't have to feel miserable, angry, sad or lonely - we can do something about it, if we want to.

"Experience is not what happens to you, it's what you do with what happens to you" - Aldous Huxley

Behaving flexibly

NLP gives us the ability to choose how we respond to any given situation - we do not have to do what we have always done. NLP shows us how we can try out new ways of thinking and new ways of being, how to experiment and find out what works for us.

"Change your thoughts and you change your world" Norman Vincent Peale
